CH. 29 AL-'ANKABŪT PT. 20 أَنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ وَتَقْطَعُونَ Do you approach men with. 30 السَّبِيْلَ وَتَأْتُونَ فِي نَادِيكُمُ الْمُنْكَرَ highway? And you commit فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِةٍ إِلَّا أَنْ قَالُوا ائْتِنَا lust and commit robbery on the abomination in your meetings!' Important Words (commit robbery) is formed from They sayi. e. he cut off the thing; explained and expounded it. means, he Three vices have been ascribed to the people of Lot in this verse: (1) unnatural vice; (2) highway robbery; and (3) committing crimes openly and unashamedly in their assemblies. قطع الصلوة deprived him of his right means, he made the قطع الطريق على السالكين means, he rendered the Prayer nugatory. way dangerous to the wayfarers and forbade them to use it (Aqrab). Commentary: :means تقطعون السبيل The expression (a) you rob travellers on the highway. Lot's people had adopted the calling of the road; or (b) you appointed violate the Divinely sex-laws and commit unnatural offences. 2478 2961. Commentary: The verse speaks of two things: (1) the glad tidings that the messengers brought to Abraham and (2) the warning that the people of the city of Lot were about to be destroyed. The glad tidings conveyed to Abraham were about the birth of a son and the cities to be destroyed were Sodom and Gomorrah.
