هَدُنَا اللهُ كَالَّذِي اسْتَهْوَتْهُ الشَّيْطِيْنُ CH. 6 AL-AN'ĀM and shall we be turned back on our heels after Allah has guided PT. 7 ELSTIJ“ ORGASÝÝ فِي الْأَرْضِ حَيْرَانَ له احب us, like one whom the evil ones him entice away leaving يَدْعُونَةَ إِلَى الْهُدَى انْتِنَا قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى bewildered in the land, and who اللهِ هُوَ الْهُدَى وَأُمِرْنَا لِنُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ has companions who call him to guidance, saying, 'Come to us?" Say: "Surely, the guidance of Allah is the only guidance and we have been commanded to submit to the Lord of all the worlds. 817 The "boiling water" mentioned in the verse will serve as a medicine to bring about a cure, while the "grievous punishment" will be in the nature of an operation. 817. Important Words: (entice away) is derived from or from the truth (Lane). الْعُلَمِينَ (bewildered) is derived from which means, he was or became dazzled by a thing at which he looked, so that he turned away his eyes from it; he was or became confounded or perplexed and unable to see his right course; he erred or means in a state of حیران ie the thing fell | lost his way. هوى الشيء They say. هوى down or came down (from a higher to a lower place). Conversely Ja means, the man climbed the hill. means, the wind blew. means, he loved and desired it. A means, love of good or evil; desire; inclination; evil inclination or desire. confusion or perplexity, being unable to see his right course; erring; having lost his way (Lane). Commentary: The opening clause of the verse teaches by means of an example how to preach the truth. It points out that the best way to preach is to begin by exposing the errors of the opposing party as hinted in the words, neither profit us nor harm us, and then to proceed to point out the truth as hinted in the words, after Allah has guided us. means, he took away all his desire and reason leaving him confounded; he made his evil desires look fair in his eyes (Aqrab). A also means, inclination of the soul or the mind to a thing; an object of love; the inclination of the soul to that in which the animal appetites take delight, The verse then gives an apt without any lawful invitation thereto; illustration to expose the futility of opinion swerving from the right way i. e. attributing co-partners to 880
