662 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS Let me mention something closer at hand. Maulawi Abdullah Ghaznavi, who is my pir [spiritual guide] and mentor, as also of Muhammad Husain Ṣāḥib, enjoyed the utmost love and fidelity from his followers. Once he said to one of his spe- cial followers: 'Go to Najd in Arabia and copy the pamphlets about Tauhid [Oneness of Allah], written by Muhammad bin Abdul-Wahhab. The disciple left immediately, not waiting even a moment even though he did not have the travel expenses or the mount for the journey. If Maulawi Muhammad Husain were to give a single paisa [penny] to one of his followers and ask him to go to the market to get him some yogurt, he may per- haps refuse to do SO, and even if he complies, he may be angry ببین تفاوت ره از کجا است تا بکجا. and complain to people behind his back [Look what a difference there is between the two scenarios!] I have mentioned this by way of example. There have been thousands of Auliya' (who incurred fatwas of disbelief in their own times) whose followers are obedient and devoted to them. This is the consequence of the heartfelt love of God among the righteous. Since Mirza Ṣāḥib has true love for his Lord, accept- ance for him is being inspired by the heavens, and despite the opposition of the maulawis, the virtuous are advancing in their affection for him (even though Abu Saeed Ṣāḥib [Muhammad Husain Batālawi] may be angry). In contrast the Maulawī [Batālawī] Ṣāḥib, who a été to [māshā’Allāh—as Allah has willed] pretends to be the Sun of Punjab, should reflect upon his own situation. How many true well-wishers does he have and what is the inner condition of his true friends? It is said that there was a time earlier when Maulawi Ṣāḥib was a good man, but now the love for fame and pride in his learning has thrown him down from the seat of Surely, to] إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَجِعُونَ. honour to the dust of degradation Allah we belong and to Him shall we return]. Now let Maulawī Ṣāḥib personally reflect what caused this
