AN ACCOUNT OF SOME OF MY HELPERS 569 This honourable scholar (Hadrat Maulawi Ṣāḥib) is one of the near and dear friends of mine. He is one of those followers who took the Pledge of Allegiance at my hand and remained loyal to this Pledge with all his heart. He pledged allegiance to me that he would never give pref- erence to anyone over Allah, the One and Only. I found him among the people who fulfil their promises and fear the Lord of the world. He, at the time when evil is in full swing, is like clear water descending from the skies. He is a gem of a person. I have never observed such love for the Holy Quran in anyone's heart as I have seen overflowing in his heart. Love of the Holy Quran has completely occupied his heart. His face is a reflection of his love for luminous Quranic verses. The light of Allah, the Gracious, has been placed in his heart. Thus, through this light of guidance, he explains those subtleties of the Holy Quran which are very deep and hidden. Most of his qualities make me feel proud of him. It is a favour from Allah-He bestows it upon His servants in whatever way He wills, for He is the Best of providers. Allah has bestowed upon him excellent faculties and granted him great wisdom. He has been given the gift of sweet and exquisitely beautiful discourse which cannot be found in other books. So far as his nature is concerned, it has a close and perfect relation to the Word of the Glorious Lord. This Holy Quran contains innumerable treasures of which this young nobleman has been given a deep understanding. This is by the sheer grace of Allah, and nobody can withhold the favours of Allah upon anyone's life. From among His (Allah's) men, some are given almost nothing, while others are abundantly blessed. But nobody has the right to argue with Allah over this matter. I swear by this era of mine, he (Maulawi Noor-ud-Deen of Bhera) is the champion of big arenas. The following proverb befits him very well, 'As there are great scholars for every branch of knowledge, in the same way, every arena has its champions. Moreover, there is another proverb that suits him well, “Surely, in some parts of the earth are hidden very precious treas- ures, as some men possess excellent abilities. '
