504 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS saying: 'May you be granted the best reward and be saved from every affliction. You indeed have been gracious to us. If we remain ungrateful to you, we shall indeed be wrongdoers. Consequently, Allah abolished the name of the Sikhs through these people. He uprooted them from their land and rendered them incapa- ble of inflicting any pain to His creatures. You see them then disappear without any trace as if the earth had swallowed them. O ye witnesses! How astonishing does it appear to be? Now I briefly narrate unto you the traits of the people whom Allah has made the means for His mercy to the Muslims. He sent them as protective help- ers in order to punish the tormentors and usurpers on account of their actions, and to provide peace to a threatened people. I deem it better to mention their accounts exclusively from that of the Sikhs. This is to honour Divine blessings, so that He may count us among those who honour His favours and who are always grateful, and to follow the path of our master (Muhammad sas) who has set the example of being He who is not] مَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرِ النَّاسَ فَلَمْ يَشْكُرِ الله ,grateful to the people, saying grateful to man is indeed not grateful to Allah']¹ and so that we may be saved from the frailty of either exuberant praise or baseless criticism. We utter nothing but the truth, so the witnesses should bear witness. 1. Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Kitābul-Birr wa'ş-Şilah, Bāb Mã Ja'a fi as-Shukrliman Aḥsana'ilaik, Hadith 1955 [Publisher]
