AN ACCOUNT OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE & THE EMPRESS OF INDIA may Allah grant her the best of rewards on account of her treatment to us! Oye brethren! Remember that we have been delivered from the oppres- sors under the shadow of the government of this Queen whose title I have mentioned in the heading. We prospered under her rule as a land blooms with verdure in the rainy season. She is even more glorious and honourable in terms of her kingdom and dominion than that of the Queen Zenobia. O Lord! Bless us with her person and generosity and save her Kingdom from the evil designs and conspiracies of the Russian Empire. Indeed, we have seen a great deal of beneficence and prosperity from her. If we neglect to appreciate her then, indeed, we are guilty of being remiss in our responsibility with respect of Allah. Surely, the worst of beasts in the sight of Allah are those who hurt the benevolent and desire to do evil to the comforters. Thus, Allah throws an axe on the trees of their life that they may be cut down. O ye people! Before the reign of this honourable Queen we were left forsaken and forlorn from every quarter. We did not know any dwelling nor possessed any abode. The Sikhs would seize our posses- sions as the snatch of a hawk and would swiftly disappear like a shoot- ing arrow, hastily running away. We had been left alone like those who were deserted in a vast barren wilderness and were being burnt in the fires of desolation. Allah delivered us from all these miseries and helped us with a people of faces shining like the full moon and with the colour
