A BRIEF ACCOUNT OF MY LIFE & BLESSINGS 503 Thus, they abandoned the Hereafter and completely neglected it. They began to fall on this world as a dog falls on a carcass, or with even more avarice. They left no track nor valley but plundered it, and found no possession but robbed it. To them, shedding the blood of a Muslim was as trivial as killing a mosquito, and for such murder were they extremely keen. They turned into liars and traitors who would not observe any tie of relationship nor honour their solemn pledges; they would break their covenants and oaths and would not practice righteousness. Thus, when Allah desired to heal the wounds of the Muslims and free their necks from the yoke of the oppressors, to deliver them from the captivity of tyrants and to be Gracious to the weak, He brought a people from the far corner of the world. The youth of a people, being helped by God, punished them and fell upon their ugly darkened faces like meteors. Many of them were killed, many drowned in the river, and many of them resembled the dead in their fleeing. They lost their senses, as if all of their limbs were benumbed or paralyzed. Allah gladdened the eyes of the Muslims with the sight of the flags of their helpers. The Sikhs were ground into the earth such that they became like the slender veins woven on the skin of a mosquito. They looked like one fainting on account of their approaching death, and they became certain of their imminent destruction. The Muslims would pray for the conquerors of the Sikhs
