484 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS You see that Islam has become like a fruitless withered branch and its condition is akin to a hen that no longer lays eggs. It is high time for the mourners to weep. The trust it possessed and the station of hon- our it held have vanished. The vestiges of honesty have been oblite- rated and its burial has been performed. Knowledge has been buried alive, the scholars have passed away, and only those are left who are like pythons. They know neither religion nor honesty. They run after their worldly desires. Of those who call themselves Muslims, the majority of them disobey their Lord. They drink wine, fornicate, oppress people, and bear false witness. They do not obey and do not lend a generous hand to the needy, but extend their hands towards evil deeds. All these calamities befell them when their hearts were occupied with Western knowledge and the Christian concept of freedom spread in their lands. Hence, they were pulled towards them. This is the great event that was clearly predicted by the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and you read or hear it recorded in Ṣaḥīḥ Bukhārī. Thus, look at the alluring designs of the Western philos- ophies-how they have pulled the youth towards the West. O ye believers! Look, how Allah has fulfilled the prophecy of His Messenger. Know that here the fire means the fire of mischief that has come from the West and has burned the robes of righteousness. At times the foolish are scared of its flames, but on other occasions the fire is mistaken for a light in their eyes—seducing them against their will— they being led astray by it. Do not take these prophecies in a literal sense and do not turn away from what you observe. Know for certain that the words of the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, have such a lofty and elevated status that no one can grasp their true meanings except the one whom Allah has bestowed with an abundant provision of insight, and has granted him a wise heart, a etrating eye, keen ears, and special knowledge from His Lord. a pen- No one is granted this secret wisdom except the ones who no longer have their own eyes and personal opinions. They are lost in the Holy
