REBUTTAL TO SHΑΙΚΗ ΒΑΤALAWI 369 now time for you to understand this and fear the day when no tall talk would be of any avail. If an astrologer, soothsayer, or a man versed in the science of divi- nation can make a claim like mine and then manifest a prophecy, come forward and present such an example and get it published in some newspapers, but keep in mind that you will never be able to present such an example. Such an astrologer shall be destroyed. Almighty God says to His Prophetsas that if he had fabricated from himself even a single word or phrase, his life artery would have been severed. How then could it happen that as against my enemies, instead of cutting my life artery, Allah, glorified be His eminence, honoured my humble self who, in your eyes, is a disbeliever, an impostor, a deceiver, and a great liar, by fulfilling this prophecy in support of my claim? Has it ever hap- pened in the world that God Almighty should so help a liar who has been repeating this lie against God Almighty for eleven years that he is the recipient of such revelation as He bestows upon the saintly and those He converses with—yet God should not sever his life artery? In fact, on the contrary, God should fulfil his prophecies to bring shame, ignominy, and silence upon his enemies like you. Moreover, the result of your efforts should be that while only 75 people attended the Salana Jalsa [Annual Convention] before you issued the edict of takfir [alleg- ing disbelief] and took so much trouble to discourage people, 327 sin- cere friends hastened to the next Jalsa held to propagate the truth. What more should I say? I shall—God willing—print and publish this letter, and I have no need to hold any meeting in Batala to test this prophecy. It would be appropriate that you should also publish this letter of mine in Ishaʻat-us-Sunnah and should also state what prevents you now from accepting my claim. The fair-minded people will them- selves judge whether your objections are valid or not. To reiterate, Allah, glorified be His eminence, knows very well that I am truthful in my claim and I am neither an impostor, nor a dajjal [deceiver] nor an arch-liar.
