370 Α'ΙΝΑ-Ε-ΚΑMĀLĀT-E-ISLAM-DAFI UL-WASĀWIS There was already no shortage of arch-liars, dajjāls, and impostors during this era that God Almighty—instead of sending a Mujaddid [Reformer] ordained by Him at the beginning of the century-should have set up a dajjal to add to the discord and corruption. Nevertheless, what remedy can I offer to those who fail to understand the truth and make no effort to discover the truth of the matter; instead, they hasten to make fatwas of takfir [alleging disbelief]. I am in pain like one attending to a dear one who is sick, and deeply grieved for these unmindful people and pray that, O Lord of Power and Glory! O Guide who shows the right path! Open the eyes of these people; and bestow sight upon them Yourself and send down revela- tion of truth and righteousness upon their hearts Yourself. I am sure that my supplications will not be in vain, for I am from Him and call the people towards Him. It is true that if I am not from Him and I am an impostor, He will destroy me with a severe chastise- ment because He never bestows such honour upon an impostor as He bestows upon a truthful claimant. Now, just look at this with justice, for no man can be sure of his own life, nor can he make a claim regarding the life of another that that person would remain alive till such and such a time, or that that person would die by such and such a time. However, in this prophecy of mine there is not one, but six claims: First, my surviving until the time of nikāḥ [marriage]; Second, the certain survival of the father of the girl until the time of nikāḥ; Third, the passing away of the father
