PREFACE ESSENCE OF ISLAM 117 claim: if this is our stand, then this is also the belief of the righteous predecessors. AUTHOR'S MARGIN NOTE The Salaf Ṣāliḥ [Pious Predecessors] had never held the belief that the pres- ent-day maulawis―Miyāń Nadhir, Batalawi, and such- hold in relation to the Holy Prophetas, through which egregious insult is inevita- bly hurled upon the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. O ignorant ones! This is absolutely not the way of the righteous predecessors. If the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him, had believed that the Holy Spirit ever separated from him sas, for short or long peri- ods, they would certainly not have collected the sayings of the Holy Prophet, peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him, at all the different periods of his life and all times of day. The Companions had eyes fixed on this verse: their وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحَى يُوحَى 10 If the Companions had believed, like you, O maulawis, that the Holy Prophet, peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him, was not free from Satan's touch, why would they have declared him to be the Chief of the Immaculate? Fear God Almighty! Why are you adamantly bent upon fabricat- ing such blatant lies? مصطفی را چون فروتر شد مقام از مسیح ناصری اے طفل خام How can the status of Mustafa [the Chosen Onesas] be lower Than that of the Messiah of Nazareth, O immature child! یعنی از روح القدس يَدُ اللهِ فَوْقَ أَيْدِيهِمْ چوں توان گفتن که از روحش جدا است آنکه دست پاک او دست خداست He whose holy hand is the Hand of God— How can you say that he is separated from the Holy Spirit? 1.
