PREFACE به نخوت با نمی آید بدست آن دامن پاکش کسے عزت از ویا بد که سوز د رخت عزت را Pride will not let you catch hold of His holy garment; Only he is honoured in God's sight who has burnt up the symbols of worldly honour. اگر خواهی رو مولی از لاف علم خالی شو که ره ند هند در کویش اسیر کبر و نخوت را If you desire the way of God, free yourself from the pride of your learning; For, a slave of pride and haughtiness cannot find his way to His Presence. الهامی منه دل در تنعم ہائے دنیا گر خدا خوابی که میخواد نگار من شهیدستان عشرت را revealed line If you are seeking God, do not commit your heart to the luxuries of the world; For my Beloved loves only those who stay away from all luxury. الهامی کجا بیند دلِ نا پاک روئے پاک حضرت را مصفا قطره باید که تا گوهر شود پیدا revealed line A pure drop is needed so that it may become a pearl; How can an impure heart be honoured with a sight of the counte- nance of the Holy One. منه از بهر ما کرسی که ماموریم خدمت را نمی باید مر ایک ذرہ عزت ہائے ایں دنیا I do not seek even the smallest title of honour in this world; Do not place a chair for me, for I am appointed to serve. خلاف من که میخواهم براہِ یار ذلت را ہمہ خلق و جہان خواہد برائے نفس خود عزت All the people and the whole world desire honour for themselves, Unlike me, who will bear disgrace for the sake of my Beloved. چه افتاد این سرما را که میخواهد مصیبت را همه در دور این عالم امان و عافیت خواهند Everyone in today's world seeks ease and comfort; What has happened to my head that it bids for sufferings? 73
