THE MESSAGE OR A CRY OF ANGUISH 55 these objections are completely bereft of true insights and pro- found wisdom with much of their rebuttal being taken up by deception. Now ponder, how much work needs to be done in the way of defending Islam. Besides, everyone understands the obvious fact that our cunning opponents have got into the habit of raising the same objections that have already been answered forty years ago, albeit in a new form, style and various kinds of novel ways of argumentation. At times they have linked these [objections] to natural sciences and astronomy or to some other deceptive proofs, and have circulated them in the country. These objections are actually having much effect, so that earlier rebut- tals seem void against their new strategy and tactic. In view of this, can any wise person accept that there is no more need to refute these objections? The Anjuman-e-Himāyat-e-Islām should think for itself. They became worried on seeing my memorial as it had undermined the grounds of their memorial; they so desper- ately strove to obtain the assistance of the Punjab Observer and Paisa Akhbar, and were discontent to believe that since the con- tents of their memorial were comprehensive, there was no need to do anything more. The same holds good in the courts. When an appellant comes up with better arguments, the opposing party does not remain content with the comprehensive arguments they had presented in the lower court on the ground that they do not feel the need to refute the appellant's current arguments, or the need to hire an advocate as their earlier proofs were sufficient. I know well that the members of the Anjuman-e-Himāyat-e-Islām and their supporters would act the same in their worldly affairs, but they have forgotten this principle when it comes to the faith of Islam.
