REFUTING OBJECTIONS refer to my book al-Barāhīn[-ul-Ahmadiyya], and if his doubts are not dispelled, let him see my book at-Tabligh. If he is still not satisfied, then let him read my book Hamāmatul-Bushrā. [The Dove of Good News] Should any doubt remain thereafter, let him ponder over my book Shahādatul-Qur'ān [Testimony of the Holy Quran]. Furthermore, he is not prohibited from reading this very book, too, so that it becomes clear to him how emphatically I have declared that Jihad and revolt against this government is unlawful and that the Jihadists are in error. Had I been an enemy of this government, my actions would have been very different. Neither would I have sent these books and declarations to the Arab world and Muslim countries, nor would I have come forward to give such counsel. So ponder-O people with insight!-as to why have I done all these things. Why have I sent these books—which strongly prohibit Jihad against this government to the Arab world and other countries? Did I hope to receive a reward from the people of those countries, or did I know that they would be pleased with me upon hearing such words and increase thereby our brotherhood and unity? However, if none of these were my objectives—and indeed the obvious outcome was that people would become displeased and angry with me, and vilify me with their sharp tongues-then what could have compelled me to such an undertaking? Was there any other benefit for me in sending those books to countries that are not under British rule, but are instead, as is known to the elite and commoners alike, Muslim countries that have vastly different ways of thinking? And if there was a hidden benefit, then let anyone who doubts or criticizes me reveal it—if he is truthful. Glory be to Allah! There was no benefit besides revealing the truth. Indeed, I have heard that my pronouncements enraged certain ulama, 57
