I concern myself with only those who are sincere in their friendship with me, and I disown the one whose miserliness has inhibited him, and who has turned away. Such a one has joined with the miserly and was therefore rejected, counted among the forsaken. Those who wish to send something should do so quickly, as time is short and our dear guest is ready to travel. It has become incumbent upon us to inform those who are unaware as soon as possible. You should not sit idly by after I have highlighted the importance of this work. So step forward to help and do not delay. Extend your hands and be rewarded and be the foremost in the way of Allah. So whosoever wishes, should send their dirhams or dinars here to Qadian and should note in his letter that it has been sent for him [i. e. ash-Shāmī]. In fact, it would be better to send it to him directly, in his name, without sending it through me, so he himself can collect whatever comes, as this will give his heart satisfaction. Among the actions taken to please God, upholding the honour of Islam is the most exalted. And now is the time for it, so do not waste the time you have and arise as one of His servants! O Muslims, run towards Allah and avoid the various forms of turmoil that have surged forth and arisen all around you and among you. Do good works that will please God and grant you nearness to Him. Be compassionate towards your religion, for it has become weak and the hair around its temples has begun to turn grey. This aging, however, is unnatural and has occurred due to the befalling of misfortunes and continuous difficulties. Each and every one of you should look to his deeds, reflect upon his thoughts, and weigh the goods he has secured for the hereafter. He should closely examine the dirhams he has collected for this journey: Is it a good measure, or insincere and insufficient? He should neither deceive himself nor allow insincerity to put him 39
