ADDRESSING THE ARAB WORLD statement, or to encourage our friends and earnest companions with statements full of ceremony. I know that a mere indication suffices for our benevolent friends. Each should give according to his means from what Allah has granted him. He should neither be shy nor embarrassed that he has given little. He should know that the true purpose is the act of giving itself, even if it should be a single fils, or a quarter of it, or less than a whit. Whoever has a good standard of living should give, if he wishes, according to his means. This is solely the act of those who seek the pleasure of Allah. Whosoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and Allah will bless his wealth, family, and children. Whatsoever you spend in the way of Allah returns to you in this world and the here- after and you will not suffer any loss. So if you should give a seed, you will have a farm, and if you give a drop of water, you will have a sea-such are the blessings of Allah. And Allah does not withhold His reward from those who do good. Conversely, do you think that you will be forgiven and your Lord will become pleased with you should He not find you striv- ing to please Him and to be obedient like the sincere ones. O people! Fear Allah and be among those who give precedence to Him over themselves, and know that Allah is with those who are fearful of Him. Your wealth and your children are a trial for you. Allah is watching to see whether you love Him or you love other things. You will be far removed from those pleasures, and these assemblies shall not last, nor their attendees. Then you will be returned to Allah and questioned about your deeds, and about the struggles you undertook in the way of God. So arise, O peo- ple, arise! Time is passing, so arise quickly and rest not alongside those who live in opulence. We do not give responsibilities to the one who does not make the truth incumbent upon his own self.
