The Light of Truth — Page 25

ADDRESSING THE ARAB WORLD 25 Book of Allah and His Messenger. I see them playing different tunes, and each playing to the tune of his false beliefs—fully immersed in, and contented by, his own melody. They neither repent, nor express remorse. On the contrary, I see that they are determined and take pride in their ignorance, clapping their hands joyfully. They engage in takfir of believers with great audacity, as though they are safe from Allah's reckoning and His accounting; and as if Allah will not ques- tion them and will not say, 'Why did you follow that about which you did not have certain knowledge;' and that one day He will not inform them of what is in their hearts! Never! Indeed, they will be questioned. I have seen that such mischief was not limited to the ulama; rather, the common folk gathered around their calling, and were infatuated by their dry yet lustrous speeches. For this reason, the general pub- lic became furious with us, and their blood boiled at the instigation of the liars. They considered these ulama to be learned, pious, and truthful. When the entire land of India trembled from an earthquake, and I perceived miserliness and jealousy on the part of the ulama, I decided that I would turn away from them and flee to Makkah, where I should turn my attention to the righteous Arabs and the noblesse of the Mother of Towns, who were created from the clay of freedom and brought up on the milk of the praiseworthy. When I felt this desire, Allah put it in my heart that I should write some books in plain and clear Arabic. So, by the grace, mercy, and help of Allah, I authored a book entitled (1) at-Tabligh [Conveying the Message], then another book named (2) at-Tuhfah [The Gift], and then a book named (3) Karāmātuş-Şādiqīn [The Miracles of the Truthful]. ! Then, after those, I published Hamāmatul-Bushra [The Dove of 1. At-Tabligh is the Arabic portion of the book Ä'ina-e-Kamālāt-e-Islām [The Mirror of the Excellences of Islam], written in 1892, and at-Tuhfah is short for Tuhfah-e-Baghdād [A Gift for Baghdad], published in 1893.
