AN ADMONITION God if you truly desire His pleasure, and adopt the ways of the righteous. O brothers! Our religion, which excels even the sun and the moon, has become weak. Corruption has become widespread in the present age-a fact regarding which no two people would disagree, nor would any two lips utter anything to the contrary. You observe that people have become caught in the fangs of the beast of misguidance, and the most dreadful faces have appeared. We have become weak as a body and at an indi- vidual level, so I seek refuge with Allah from a wretched end. We have no means of eliminating these beasts and this calamity except by lifting our hands in earnest prayer. Hence, the time has come to exert sincere effort and demonstrate zeal and jeal- ousy [for the Faith] like men. If you do not listen, you are guilty of the sin of the heedless. Do you not see our deteriorating conditions, past days of adversity, and looming troubles? These calamities descended only because of our own heedlessness and because we feigned ignorance of our religion. However, Allah may have mercy on you, if you are repentant. Whoever goes to countries belonging to the British solely for the sake of Allah is one of the pure, and if death overtakes such a person, he will be one of the martyrs. O ye protectors of the Religion! O people who possess jeal- ousy and zeal [for the Faith]! O helpers of the religious teach- ing of Muhammad! Recognise the present age, for the time has come. This is the era you hoped for, this is the time you still long for, and this [humble one] is the Mahdi whom you are awaiting. The moon and the sun are eclipsing, and the night and day are bearing witness! Therefore, will you come to me, O brothers, or will you turn away? You have found that which you had lost. Thus, rush to the favour bestowed on you and the Mujaddid [Reformer] who has been sent to you. Do not doubt or be sus- picious. Exert efforts that would bring down mountains and 463
