AN ADMONITION the wise and not the ignorant and foolish. There is no doubt that guiding the misguided and ignorant is incumbent upon the knowledgeable ulama. So arise for the sake of Allah and propagate His guidance-and do not hope for a reward for it from anyone other than Him. Send two knowledgeable men to those territories, the coun- tries whose people reject [Islam]. If you were to consult me and enquire of me, then I have already clearly told you the name of a person whose virtue, knowledge, strength, and forbearance I have observed with my own eyes. However, he needs another companion or two from among those who have a command of the Arabic language and are immersed in the knowledge of the Holy Quran. So help him-O ye company of Muslims in this. If you carry this out and do as I say, your righteous actions will last in your favour until the end of time. You will be raised among those beloved by the Gracious God and will be gathered together alongside His servants who strove. Therefore, obey, may Allah have mercy on you, and arise for the sake of Allah in obedience. I will relate to you a parable, so consider it objectively. Every man would accept spending everything he owns for relief from, for example, severe abdominal pain caused by trapped gas. So what is the matter with him that he is not pleased to support the Faith and the right path? Does he not value the right path even as much as relief from trapped gas? Ponder like those with shame. Furthermore, supporting the Faith is among the great- est means of success and methods of reformation, along with adorned remembrance, goodly praise [of God], and joining the Auliyā' [Friends of God]. It is not righteousness [for Muslims] to accuse one another of disbelief, transgress like the unjust, and spare the enemies of the Best of Mankind and the Jinn. The righteous are those who strive in the way of Allah in a way that is appropriate to the particular circumstances of the age. Thus, seek out deeds which are virtuous in the sight of the Gracious 461
