AN ADMONITION except through establishing proof and removing misconcep- tions. Souls have set out to seek the truth of Islam, so enter this arena through its gates and do not lose your way like a deranged lover. If you are truthful and aspire to goodness, send scholarly men to travel throughout British lands as preachers in order to conclusively establish the argument of the exalted law of Islam against the disbelievers and to support our friends and be their helpers. The approach that I consider the best and most appropriate, which is fitting and right, is to select a pious man for this mis- sion who knows the English language, such as Maulawi Hasan Ali, whom I love for the sake of Allah. He is a man of resolve and fitting for this plan. Alongside this, he is God-fearing, pure and possesses the courage to propagate the faith. However, this wish cannot be fulfilled without the resolve of wealthy individ- uals who strive in service of the people, who take no notice of naysayers and their criticism. You are aware that this journey requires a sufficient amount of provisions, as well as a companion with a command of the Arabic language. So help with your wealth and your persons if you love Allah and His Messenger, and do not rest along- side those who sit, unmoved. Know that Islam is a centre and pillar for humankind, as the physical realm is a reflection of the spiritual realm, and God has tied its welfare and dignity to the welfare and dignity of its spiritual counterpart; this has remained the practice of the Lord of all the worlds. When Allah decides to exalt a nation, He grants them resolve in religion and a jealousy for the firm path. Arise, there- fore, to [confront] the enemies, though not like fools; but rather, like the intelligent and wise. Do not adopt injustice and do not even let the notion arise in your minds. Instead, obey Allah and propagate His guidance, and Allah loves the pure. It is my hope that, out of your zeal for Islam and jealousy for your religion, you will prepare the [necessary] means like 459
