QAŞIDAH ON THE DAYS OF ALLAH When I observed the eclipsing of the sun and the moon, And their faces illuminated and the pitch-black darkness faded, I understood from the benevolence of the Noble Lord regarding my plan, That after darkness, light was fast approaching. The sun and the moon give good news of my victory! They have set, but the sun of our Faith never does. O enemies! Repent and fear God! By God, I am a Messenger and granted nearness to Him. If a claim to knowledge is the root of your arrogance, Then produce the like of my ode, [writing] like the Arabs. 451
