QAŞIDAH ON THE DAYS OF ALLAH The moon is like a woman in her howdah; Its appearance pleases you and you desire it. Rain from the clouds appeared all around it; Their thunderous sound shocks at every moment. The clouds are like the folds of a tent and [a voice] cries out from within; The thunder, in the manner of the righteous, echoes the praises of God. The moon in its appearance resembles blood; Its face is like someone angry, which terrifies and frightens. Clouds appear on both of its sides as though, It were a balance in the hands of an enraged woman. The moon of Allah has been slandered as being darkness; A bright night [labelled] a dark one-how strange! 447
