SIGNS TO STRIKE FEAR INTO THE HEARTS disgraces those who deny and antagonize. He judges with truth and He is the Best of Judges. He decides between those in conflict with one another and eradicates every last aggressor. They are afflicted with humili- ation, cowardice, sorrow, and loss, and this is how He recom- penses the liars. He loves those among the weak who are righteous, and He uproots the mischief-makers who abandon the precepts of truth and their appropriate occasions; they stand upon that which they have no knowledge of, and say, 'We believe in the Quran, while they are not believers at all; they stubbornly per- sisted in matters, the reality of which they do not know; and they were commanded to abide by the ways of righteousness but they forsook them, and labelled their believing brethren as disbelievers. They despaired of the Days of Allah and their glad tidings, disregarding them completely, but soon they shall learn the manner of return for the corrupt and treacherous ones. Among the peculiarities of these two eclipses is that they were joined together in Ramadan, [the month] in which Allah sent down the Quran. Thereafter, Allah will spread the true and correct knowledge, and confute false and obscene inno- vations. He will incline mankind towards their Imam through various measures. Great rivers of true knowledge shall flow and mankind will move from the outer peel to the inner flesh; from aversion towards love; from superficiality to real meaning; from going astray to the [right] path; and those who erred in their motive will become mindful of truth and rectitude, and those whose thinking brought them to the pasture of ruin shall turn back. Those who wasted the greatness of the Imam with their own hands will become remorseful. Those who stained themselves with all kinds of sin will become purified. These 425
