QAŞĪDAH ON THE MAHDI'S ADVENT If you do not desire guidance and instead accuse me of lying, Then go on and hurt me with your limbs and tongue, And curse me; indeed, cursing and insulting the truthful, Is inherited [practice] from the earliest days. You can never frustrate the Lord of the heavens with your machinations; Allah possesses dominion over all dominion. Look fair-mindedly at the sun and then the moon: Were the two of them eclipsed in support of a liar? O ye who curse me! Fear the subduing power of the Lord who witnesses! Allah possesses Signs which He will show after them; These two [eclipses] have come to you like a headline. 411
