QAŞĪDAH ON THE MAHDI'S ADVENT The two hands of intellect possess our hearts; And we see the lustre of truth by its proof. My enemies despaired when the guidance was revealed; Today, they have no hands for that [competition]. O ye who curse me! Fear the subduing power of the Almighty Lord! I swear to Allah, I am a Muslim of eminent stature! I swear to Allah, I am truthful, not a liar; The heavens of Allah and the day and night bear witness. I abandoned my own desires for the love of my Master, And, by turning my reins away, I forsook your world. And my entire being became inseparable from my Refuge; I renounced every transitory attachment. Do not rush [to judgement]; rather, reason and deliberate; The whole of intellect lies in applying oneself diligently. 409
