QAŞĪDAH ON THE MAHDI'S ADVENT Do not turn away from me; indeed, how is it that you turn away, From the one who is sent [by God], guiding towards the Furqan? Out of wretchedness, my people did not come to me, and distanced themselves; So I left them despite feeling the anguish of abandonment. I perceived the abandoning of the people who forsook me, To be a case resembling the case of a Canaanite Prophet [Jacobas]. I beseeched my Lord, and He answered my prayer; Thus did I overcome my sorrows. Verily, my enemies do not understand the kinds of knowledge I possess; And they label the truth as lies like the inebriated. They do not judge with deliberation and reasoning; And instead they tenderly carry around their doubts as though they were idols. The 'uqul [intellects] bear witness to the nuqūl [traditions]; Weights require a balance. 407
