QAŞĪDAH ON THE MAHDI'S ADVENT He who fought the accepted one [of God] fought his Lord; And so, the wretched one fell into the abyss of loss. He who receives the protection and help of God, Who can destroy him, even if both Jinn and men should strive. Scheme, all ye together, to humiliate me, Then watch how I am honoured by the One who treats me with sincerity. Arise all ye with united resolve to abase me, Then watch how I am exalted by the One who has befriended me. Become like the wolf and attack me with your knife, Then watch the charging forth of the One who reveals His secrets to me. Are the blessed and the wretched equal to one another? Are you blind, or the brother of Satan? The age is calling for a Musliḥ and Mujaddid, So look with a pure eye and heart. 391
