THE ULAMA OF INDIA II Those who call us disbelievers differ with us about nothing except the death of Jesus Son of Mary, may peace be on him; they have become extremely indignant and filled with rage, as though they do not believe in the Quranic verse يُعِيسَى إِنِّى مُتَوَفِّيْكَ ]O Jesus, I will cause you to die a natural death], and do not believe in the promise of death stated clearly in it. Moreover, it is as if they do not know the verse فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيْتَنِي ]since You did cause me to die], which points to the fulfil- ment of this promise and the occurrence of death. They drive away the Muslims with their own hands and wish for Islam to be diminished. They see with their own eyes that the Christians have become victorious and their faith has spread to the corners of the earth, and they have hastened forth from every height. They have taken a humble servant as a god—fashioning a son and a father—and they became 1. Surah Al-e-Imran, 3:56 [Publisher] 2. Surah al-Ma'idah, 5:118 [Publisher]
