QAŞĪDAH ON THE LUNAR AND SOLAR ECLIPSES You can see the light of our Religion in the darkness [of the sun] and its forms, As though it were desolate land covering a buried treasure. This was not the eclipse you see resembling a Yemeni blood tree; Rather, the face of the sun turned deep red out of anger at the contemptible. The redness you see upon its cheek is its anger, At the absurdities of the people—so observe and look closely. It is an illuminating darkness that imbues the eyes with coolness; And gives the cup of certitude to those thirsting for truth. Had my opponent turned [to the truth] prior to his seeing [the eclipse], He would have been guided to divine secrets rather than suffering humiliation. 333
