A QAŞĪDAH ON THE HOLY QURAN'S VIRTUES It bestowed bucketfuls of pleasing spring water upon mankind; It satiated all creation, except the wicked and evil. Were anyone to come before it strutting arrogantly and brandishing a dagger or lancet, You would see that person vanquished and lying on the ground of humiliation, covered in dust. The Quran is a sword that smashes the teeth of whoever comes forward to fight against it; It is a lion whose assault tears apart the camel that glares at it or raises its voice against it. Woe to those disbelievers who bite incessantly and do not relent! Woe to the one for whom the sun shone but became an enemy of the rising sun! Whoever ran from its great flood [of wisdom] and its outpouring, Was not possessed of a heart that is repentant, but rather, was spoiled meat. 281
