A QAŞĪDAH ON THE HOLY QURAN'S VIRTUES Accept the springs of its knowledge or ignore it like the shameless; Adhere to its guidance—or disobey it if you are a fool who seeks to destroy the Faith. In the field, the Quran spared neither the young nor the old; It dispatched its fear-stricken enemies even though they donned armour. Out of ignorance they denied the Quran, and their knowledge did not ascend to its level, Till they became dejected like losers and set out to kindle the fire of war. Its guidance is light upon light, which brightens day by day; To those who deny its light, I have come for you with full determination. It contains all the sciences and their milk for whoever would drink its froth; All types of knowledge and their wells [from whence they originate] are found in it, and even more. 279
