REFUTING OBJECTIONS 223 My heart is torn from sheer agony; So have mercy and rescue me from their hosts. Turn our enemies into the prey of lions who would gnaw at them; And heal our hearts through their abasement and humiliation. I am fascinated by the way of this mischievous objector, for he never ceases to utter nonsense, and prattles on like drunkards. He contends that all mentions of ar-Rūh [the Holy Spirit] through- out the Quran refer to Jesus, and that this is the case for other Divine Books of Allah, the Gracious. But he is a liar and noth- ing more. O ye seekers! Know that he does not approach truth, but rather, he hastens towards a mirage. His speech contains a strange sort of deception and a bizarre obfuscation and patent dishonesty. Does he not know that the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus the same way it descended upon Moses and other Prophets? Why does he mix truth with falsehood like Dajjal [the Antichrist], who deceives by confounding? Has he not read in Chapter 3 of the Gospel of Matthew that when Jesus saw the heavens open up for him, he saw Rūķullāh [the Holy Spirit] descend upon his own person in the form of a dove. . . then the Holy Spirit led Jesus to the desert, where he would be tempted by Satan the Accursed. ¹ This proves that the Holy Spirit descended upon the Messiah the same way it 1.
