A QAŞĪDAH ON THE CHRISTIANIZED AND THEIR VICE Were you to scrutinize the congregations in their churches, You would find their elderly in just as much error as their middle-aged. What is the difference between them and idol-worshippers? Indeed the Christians erected a castle atop their foundation. Every weak and sinful one inclines towards them, So that he may satiate himself with the meat from their bowls. Anguish resides in our hearts along with the thorns of mockery, Which they used to pierce [our hearts] out of malice and invective. I see no sign of proof among them; They draw the hearts of people towards them through their wealth. The wolf of their elders ravaged nations; Many kinds of evil emanated from their youth. Reposing at night is a sign of their intention to decamp; In their sleeves they conceal ropes for tying down their howdahs. 219
