A QAŞĪDAH ON THE CHRISTIANIZED AND THEIR VICE I swear by God that [the belief of] a living Jesus is a snake, Slithering about to kill everyone in their house. God, the Protector, has placed wisdom in the death of Jesus; For it severs the very root of their creed. How can Jesus be alive when all his fellow Prophets died, As did the Best of Creation [who came] after their time. Has that natural death which strikes suddenly ever excused a Messenger? Or have you heard of any of their Companions remaining alive indefinitely? Do you deliberately anger your Lord over of the Son of Mary; And do you forsake God for their mere mortal? So go seek His guidance—though I do not expect you shall; So be gone! Go become one of them and their brethren. O you who mistook urine for cool water! Out of ignorance you erred in deeming them to be fattened [from wealth]. 209
