A QAŞĪDAH ON THE CHRISTIANIZED AND THEIR VICE My Lord, crush them the way You crush tyrants, And descend upon their enclosures to destroy their lairs! My Lord, tear them asunder and break up their alliance; My Lord, lead them to their dissolution! They have become determined to mislead us and make us meet with evil consequences, So turn their machinations around on them! When You let fly, Your arrow is lethal; It is as sharp as a sword that falls upon their warriors. We have become the camel carrying their oppression and harshness; Their assaults led us to saddle our mounts for emigration. Had I not chosen to ignore their insults, I would have loosed a flaming arrow into their smoke. The wicked oppress none but their own souls; Soon you shall see them bite their fingertips out of contrition. 205
