The Light of Truth — Page 183

PARABLE OF THE CHRISTIANS AND THE ATONEMENT possessed signs of impoverishment? How, then, did you become enamoured with him—are you mindless sheep or human beings? Furthermore, the tales he told you are opposed to the laws of nature and outside of God's established practices, so how could you have accepted them and the one who narrated them, if you are truly intelligent? How could you have forgotten the experiences of the wise elders: are you mindless cattle, or are you like drunkards, con- stantly intoxicated by wine? How could you have thought that he was truthful and trustworthy when his actions were opposed to all the truthful people? Did you not see his tattered clothes? Did you not observe his outer garments? Have you never before heard stories about swindlers? So do not blame anyone else; rather, blame yourselves. Verily, you are the ones who have brought ruin upon your wives and your brothers, and upon your friends and neighbours. So let those of you who are crying, cry over your own intelligence. This is the parable of the Christians and their Atonement, and of their ignorance and heedlessness. I have said this only for the sake of Allah—a sincere admonition for a people without true knowledge. The Messiah and his righteous Companions are absolved of this parable and its judgement. I direct it solely towards those faithless ones who move like wolves but who dress like monks; whose abandonment [by God] has been made apparent and whose fierce darkness has become known; and who have been proven to be misguided and to misguide others. It is a reflection of their utter shamelessness that, despite their own ignorance, they continue to attack Islam, misguide all classes of people, and spread various kinds of sins. They are indeed a mischievous people. Let them repent of their hastily formed beliefs, and fear their state of loss on the Day of Judgement. I am but a Warner from the Lord of all the worlds. 183
