REFUTING OBJECTIONS Among the objections of the ignorant slanderer [‘Imād-ud-Dīn], who slumbers deep within a dream of darkness, is an objection that is based upon his erroneous beliefs recorded in his book, Tauzīnul-Aqwāl. The details are as follows: He saw the verse of the Noble Quran that says, يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلائِكَةُ 1 and seized upon the word ar-Rūh [the Holy Spirit] like the cov- etous, and desired to infer from it the descent of the Messiah. Furthermore, out of shamelessness, he sought to prove thereby the divinity of Jesus. And so, gleefully and like those who falsify matters, he set out this verse as an argument. As for the answer, know that this verse does not support him at all. The only thing it proves is his foolishness and igno- rance, and his being among those who are shameless and rush to judgement. It is clear to the eminent scholars that to inter- pret the word ar-Rūḥ in this verse to mean ‘Jesus' is deceptive and dishonest; rather, the books of Tafsir [Quranic commen- tary] relate that ar-Rūh refers to the angel Gabriel [Jibrā'īl], may peace be on him, or another angel, depending upon the narration, as is evident to discerning observers. The explicit wording of this verse clearly states and, upon thorough inquiry, affirms that this event is related to the Day of Judgement, and serves as a sign for it. This is because Allah the Exalted has mentioned this story while relating the account of Paradise and its general blessings. He then further clarified in the following statement saying :2 ذلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ ]that is the Day of Truth] and the term الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ the Day of Truth] in the Holy 153 1. On the day when the Spirit and the angels will stand. . . (Surah an-Naba', 78:39) [Publisher] 2. Sūrah an-Naba', 78:40 [Publisher]
