A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD I look towards the Almighty, Who is Near, All-Powerful, Beloved, and draws close. I drink from cups of divine wisdom; And I destroy the axes of the faithless. I reached the palaces of honour, And became far removed from the ignoble. A moon appeared for me from the Gracious God, So I hastened [to accept this moon] and did not hesitate. I have achieved a perfect victory; I am the recipient of great blessings—not afflictions. I armed myself and fought my opponents; And I am not one to sit back like the weak. I have not come to mankind at an inopportune time; The wise recognize when the time for rain has arrived. 143
