A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD All light is found in the Quran, Yet mortals destined to perish hasten towards mere smoke. By means of the Quran we became inheritors of the Perfect Ones; Through it we journeyed to the farthest verities. So rise up and seek its knowledge through great effort! And fear the consequences of evil and abasement. Do you desire to be honoured in this worthless world? Do you seek its sustenance even though it is fleeting? O brother of mine! Are you foolishly content with this transitory inn? And have you forgotten that a time shall come when you will have to move to another abode? An axe hangs over the garden of this world; Many a tree is being cut down at its root. Many a neck is breaking under the hand of death, As are countless hands and many beautiful fingers. 137
