A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD When they saw towering piles of corpses, They submissively raised white flags to plead for their own security. The tribal chiefs came forward feeling ashamed, But Mustafa [Muhammadas—the Chosen One], who is a sea of compassion, showed mercy to them. But as for the ignorant, they did not obey the command [of their chiefs], So the axes of the executioners cut them down. They were made to drink the cup of death; Then they were driven towards a fire that burns the face of wrongdoers. This was the punishment for the foolishness of the ignorant ones, Meted out by the Gracious God when they hastened to massacre [the believers]. The Merciful God does not abase a people, Except after they choose to oppress and create disorder. Has any news of such nations come to you, Which were made to face divine reproach whilst doing good works? 135
