A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD Our Protector revealed it as a matchless challenge, So the disbelievers retreated in humiliation. Their parties split into many factions; Some of them came [to Islam] after a period of defiance. Others among them, enraged, took up arms, To attack and gore the truthful. You have certainly heard of how they were punished; Humiliated by the shattering of their swords. The recompense for drawing the sword is the sword itself; And so, like cowards, they were made to taste that which they doled out. When they were put through the grinding mill of affliction, They became like the wheat that is thrown upon the red hide to be crushed. So they began to flee like cowards; But they were caught and slaughtered like lambs. 133
