A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD We are inheritors of this Book, which excels every other book; It surpasses all scriptures in status. It arrived after all other tents had fallen to the ground, And all other homes and buildings had collapsed. It destroyed all paths save that of goodness; It rent asunder the corrupt innovations of the age. It is as though its swords were like a blazing fire, Which burned the swords of the ignoble. When the Book of Allah called for its equal to be brought forth, The people fell powerless and hid like the dead. They lost all ability to march forward, From the fear [of God] that had resided in their hearts. How strange it is that they collapsed like the dead, Despite being accustomed to eloquent expression. 131
