A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD It silences every person who contests it with malice; It rebukes every liar and wrongdoer. We have witnessed its heavy rain many a time; We are sacrificed for our Lord who granted us such favours. Do you know the grace that is the Quran? It is a gatekeeper that draws you towards heaven. It possesses two lights—the light of knowledge, And the light of eloquent expression akin to pearls. This is a Word which excels all others; After it, no other beauty interests me—not even the sun and the moon. In the presence of its lustre, even the light of the sun appears to be mere smoke; Neither can it be compared to Yemeni leather nor to gemstones. Where does the like of the Quran exist? Its grace has no equal. 129
