A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD The hour approaches when, God-willing, Our eyes will delight in the disgrace of the enemy. We consider their insults like a debt, And they hold our honour like collateral. Very soon we shall reach them with the sharp sword of proof, With razor-thin edges on both sides of its blade, similar to a spear. We shall cut down this vegetation with an axe, And sharp-tipped lances and spears of eloquent arguments. An evil spirit has possessed the minds of our enemies, Which we shall exorcise using the verses of the Quran. We have been given religion whereas the Christians have been given the world; This loathing, as between two sister wives, is observable by all. I am exasperated from every kind of oppression from them, But it was their insults that burned our hearts. 123
