A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD Out of sorrow, springs of tears flowed from my eyes, Upon seeing those tribulations rise like smoke. Is the anguished mourning of the mother who lost her child like my mourning? Does her state [of grief] compare to mine? Many an oppressor desires for evil to spread, And the priests are the source of this mischief. Their shamelessness has exceeded all bounds, As though foul language is their sustenance. I was reading the book of a detractor, And tears flowed from my eyes like a heavy rain. I saw words in it that enraged me; Words which abused the Chosen One, who is a Sea of Kindness. I bore this with patience up until my patience came to an end, And the fire of anger rose in my heart. 121
