A QAŞĪDAH ON FAITH & THE WORLD 117 The wicked seek refuge in this temporal world, And consider it to be a free dessert. Out of their ignorance, they have forgotten the Day of Judgement; And out of love for pitchers of wine, they have forsaken the faith. You see that they have become inclined towards alcohol, And fair and beautiful women and their singing. How many of them are captivated by [women with] large eyes; And how many are infatuated with those who are beautiful with fair skin. These women exercise command over their husbands; You see that all of them are utterly uninhibited. Laying waste to their lovers is their occupation; Their eyes put even the antelopes to shame. It is a wonder that their drowsy eyelids, Showed people the work of spears.
