REFUTING OBJECTIONS I see that the British government looks upon Islam with fondness and is not in error like those who stumble in error. Indeed it spends its days in profound thinking, and does not turn away like the arrogant. I observe signs of its discernment and anticipate that it will incline towards Islam, and Allah will not leave it among the heedless who have gone astray. In fact, a number of their scholars-affable young men with distin- guished appearances—have already joined our religion, and others from among them, too, who are keeping their beliefs hidden for the time being. I perceive that our noble Queen desires to be rightly guided. Her heart has been granted love for Islam and a yearning for its light. Perhaps Allah will place the light of His Tauhid [Oneness of God] in the heart of this brilliant Queen and in the hearts of her intelligent children. This is not difficult for Allah; rather, His power is entirely sufficient for [showing] this light, for He has power over all things. He attracts the hearts of seekers towards Himself. Likewise, I see that, day by day, the most respected members of this government are becoming inclined towards Tauhid. Their hearts have turned away from such false beliefs. It is not in keeping with their status to worship a man who pos- sesses weaknesses like them and is subject to all the needs of human beings. How can this be when Allah has granted them many types of knowledge and an ample share of understand- ing and intelligence. I have not found a single scholarly person of this nation who agrees with vain beliefs except rarely, like a lone white strand found in a lock of black hair. I know that such people are the eggs of Islam, and that hatchlings of this religion will emerge from them, and their faces shall be turned towards the Religion of Allah. These are a people who exam- ine everything carefully and do not avert their gaze from the truth once it has come to light. They are not embarrassed to 81
