pleasant; delightful, delicious, sweet, savoury, happy; (2) pure and clean. مَاءٌ طَيِّبٌ : Pure or sweet water. طَعَامٌ طَيِّبٌ : Delicious food الْكَلِمُ الطَّيِّبُ : Good sayings or words (35:11); a good thing. لَا تَتَبَدَّلُوا الْخَبِيَّتَ بِالطَّيِّبِ : Exchange not the good for the bad )4:3(. طَيِّبَوْنَ and طَيِّبِيْنَ )plurals of طَيِّبَةٌ طَيِّبٌ is feminine of طَيِّبٌ and طَيِّبَاتٌ is plural of الطَّيِّبَتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ طَيِّبَةٌ : Good things or women are for good men and good men are for good things )24:27( طَيِّب and طَيِّبَةٌ also mean a lawful thing. اَنْفِقُوْا مِنَ طَيِّبَاتِ : Spend of the good or lawful things )2:268( أُحِلُّ لَكُمُ الطَّيِّبَتُ : All good things have been made lawful to you (5:6). لک ]aor. يَطِيْرُ inf. noun طَيْرَانٌ and طَيْرٌ and طَارَ الطَّائِرُ طَيْرُوْرَةٌ : The bird flew. The word is also used of other things than those which have wings. طَارُوْا سِرَاعًا : They went away quickly. طَارُوْا إِلَيْهِ زَرَافَاتٍ وَ وُحْدَانًا : They fly to it in companies and one by one. طَارَ فَؤَادُهُ : His courage fled away i. e. he lost heart. طَارَتْ عَيْنُهُ : His eyes throbbed. طَارِ لَهُ صِيْتُ فِي النَّاسِ : He became famous among the people. يَطِيْرُ بِجَنَاحَيْهِ : That flies on its two wings )6:39( تَطَيَّرَ مِنْهُ وَبِهِ : He augured evil from it; he regarded it as an evil omen. The Arabs, when they desired to set about an affair, passed by the places where birds lay upon the ground, and roused them, in order to learn thence whether they should proceed or refrain. انا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ : Surely, we augur evil fortune from you )36:19( قَالُوا اطَّيَّرْنَا بِكَ : They said, we augur evil from thee )27:48( طَائِرٌ : A flying thing whether bird or insect. وَ لا طَائِرٌ يَطِيْرُ بِجَنَاحَيْهِ : Nor a bird that flies on its two wings )6:39( طَارَ طَائِرُهُ : He became inconstant; he became angry. جَرَى لَهُ الطَّائِرُ بِأَمْرِ كَذَا : Fortune brought to him such an event, thus طائر signifying a thing from which one augurs evil, an evil omen; ill luck evil fortune. هُوَ سَاكِنُ الطَّائِرِ : He is staid and grave. The Arabs used to say to a man or other thing from which they augured evil. طَائِرُ اللهِ لا طَائِرُكَ : What God doth and decreeth, not what thou dost and causest is to be feared. Hence طَائِرٌ signifies fortune, good or evil or its cause, but mostly evil fortune. إِنَّمَا طَئِرُهُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ : Their fortune or the cause of their evil fortune is with God (7:132).
