سما عَلَى الْمِائَةِ : They exceed one hundred. سَمَا الْقَوْمُ : The people went out سَمَا الرَّجُلُ زَيْدًا اَوْ or سَمَّى الرَّجُلَ زَيْدًا أَوْ بِزَيْدٍ . سَمْوًا inf. noun) سَمَا . hunting بِزَيْدٍ : He named him Zaid or called him Zaid. هُوَ سَمَّاكُمُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ : He )God) named you Muslims. سَمَّى اللهُ عَلَى شَيْءٍ : He pronounced the name of God saying بسْمِ اللهِ over a thing. اِسْمٌ : The name of a thing; a sign conveying knowledge of a thing; a word applied to denote an accident or attribute for the purpose of distinction. Some of the Kufees hold that اِسْمٌ is from الْوَسْمُ meaning الْعَلَامَةُ the واو being rejected and "hamzah" being substituted. تَبَارَكَ اسْمُ رَبِّكَ : Blessed is the name of thy Lord And He taught Adamall : وَ عَلَّمَ آدَمَ الْأَسْمَاءَ كُلَّهَا . .
