ذم drive out therefrom the one most mean )639( اَذَلَّيْنَ )plural): The lowest. أُولئِكَ فِي الْآذَلِّيْنَ : They are among the lowest or most disgraced (58:21). وش ]aor. يَذُمٌ inf. noun ذَمَّ and ذَمَّهُ [مَذَمَّةٌ : Heblamed him or found fault with himor censured him. ذُمّ ذم : He was satirized ام : He did or said that for which he should be blamed or found fault with اَذَمَّه : He granted him protection or refuge. أَذَمَّ لَهُ أَوْ عَلَيْهِ : He took a promise or an assurance or security or safety in favour of or against him. ذِمَّةٌ : A compact, a covenant, a contract, a bond or an obligation; a right or due for the neglect of which one is to be blamed; an inviolable right; security or safety of life and property or a promise or an assurance of protection ذل ذَمَّ security or safeguard; suretiship. لا يَرْقُبُوْا فِيْكُمْ إِلَّا وَّلَا ذِمَّةً : They wouldnot preserve any tie of relationship or covenant in respect of you )98( أنْتَ فِي ذِمَّةِ اللَّهِ : Thou art in the protection of God. فِي ذِمَّتِي كَذَا : I am responsible for such a thing. مَذْمُومٌ : Blamed or found fault with; censured or reprehended. مُذَمَّمٌ : A person blamed أَهْلُ الذِّمَّةِ : The expression is used for those non-Muslims with whom a Muslim state has made a compact and who pay poll-tax to the State, in return for which the State is responsible for their security and freedom. فَتَقْعُدَ مَذْمُوْمًا مَّخْذُوْلًا : Lest thou sit down disgraced and forsaken. )17:23( ذَنَبَ ]aor. يَذْنُبُ and يَذْنِبُ inf. noun ذَنَبَهُ ذَنْبٌ : He followed his tail, not quitting his track. اَذْنَبَ : He committed a sin, crime, fault, frailty, shortcoming misdemeanour; natural failing ذَنَبٌ meaning a tail or in man the part of body corresponding to the tail. ذَنْبٌ : Asin, crime, fault, frailty, shortcoming misdemeanour; natural failing; an offence or an act of disobedience whether intentional or committed through inadvertence. According to Imam Raghib ذَنْبٌ means, such errors and mistakes as bring about a harmful result and render one liable to be called to account. It differs from إِثْمٌ in being either intentional or committed through inadvertence; whereas ذَنْبٌ is peculiarly intentional. Plural is ذُنُوْبٌ and ذَنْبٌ is also sometimes used as plural. وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ : They have a charge or crime against me )26:15( فَاعْتَرَفُوْا بِذَنْبِهِمْ : Then will 296
